Weekly Newsletter #16
Car Mods & Discord Community! 🚀
Last week’s newsletter included a poll where I asked what you would like to see more of. Some of you even reached out personally and provided some great feedback and new ideas. Thank you all for your responses! Over 36% of those who responded, would like to see more content about mods. Considering that the newsletter already covered the latest car industry news and reviews, 2nd place went to the Discord community.
Thank you for participating in the poll!
Porsche 991 Turbo S Cup Car
The First Cup Car Turbo S Conversion
This is the country’s first Porsche 991 Turbo S with a 991 Cup Car conversion. When I first saw this Killboy picture I had to find more information. At the time, my Guards Red 991 Turbo S had some common modifications:
ESMotor Tune
TechArt lowering springs
Soul X-Pipe Competition Exhaust
AWE Intercoolers
GT3 Cup Car
I quickly found that the fabulous idea originated from Autometrics, located near Charleston, SC. I called Gordon Friedman right away to find more details. What he told me, made me want this even more. The setup includes the following:
OEM Cup car fenders
OEM Cup car flares
OEM Cup car wheel liners
Wider 10.5” custom front wheels
295 wide front tires!
New alignment
Autometrics checking everything over
The super wide front track provides amazing mechanical grip. However it does come at a cost. You lose about 25% of your turning radius. So three-point turns and parallel parking take a little more time to execute. However, the performance gains make you quickly forget. The steering gained a little bit of weight but the car felt like it was on rails.
At the HUB near the 🐉
The 991 Turbo is equipped with a wimpy 245-wide tire in the front and 305 wide in the rear. Increasing the front to 295 helped reduce understeer and with Michelin Cup 2 tires, this Turbo had monumental amounts of GRIP.
At VIR
The increased mechanical grip made it a joy to drive, on the street and at the track. Braking from 160mph+ felt like massive anchors had been deployed at the front of the car.
Tail of the Dragon
If you have a 911 Turbo, you should consider this modification, if you seek massive amounts of mechanical grip.
Discord Community 💬
Ok, so I am opening up the Grip Club Discord Community to the first 100 newsletter members. I am not sure of the direction of the community so I want to cap it so we can moderate and help determine the direction before making it 100% public.
Here are the current community features:
List your car for sale (parts in the future)
Introductions
Gallery (to show off your ride and any mods)
Drives & Meetups (to be split by state)
So if you don’t have Discord, download it on your phone and come join the conversation. Help shape this community into something you want to be a part of!

Great spec! The only thing I would replace is the black stone guard. Carbon ceramic brakes with bucket seats and front axle lift check the primary options many enthusiasts look for. The matching decal on the hood is a nice touch. Make sure to ask for Elliott Hall and tell him Danny @ GRIP sent you!
