The Death of The Audi R8 💀

Audi’s plan to electrify their entire portfolio required the death and reinvention of their iconic sports car, the R8. Audi’s original plan to end production at the end of 2023 was put on hold as demand for the screaming V10, forced the lord of the rings to extend its execution date to the end of Q1 2024.

If you think you can just head over to your local Audi dealer and place an order for one, think again. Audi is using this time to finalize the remaining orders in their books, so your best chance is on the used car market.

Audi has already toyed with the idea of an R8 E-Tron back in 2015, with very little success. Since their unveiling of the PB18 E-Tron shown above, artists have taken the liberty of rendering what the new Audi R8 E-Tron might look like.

Every time an icon is replaced with an electric variant, I feel like a dinosaur watching the meteor of electrification streak across the sky, knowing deep down that my era of roaring engines is facing the chilling death of silent, battery-powered existence.

The Next To Be Killed Off…

The Porsche 718 Cayman/Boxster. The Mission R concept was introduced on September 2021, and followed Porsche’s EV headlight design direction. This render by AutoEvolution was done the same year, but recently, the 2025 Porsche Boxster EV was spotted in the wild.

Drifting in the Scandinavia forest, the prototype has minor camouflage.

Obviously a fake exhaust pipe 😢.

It retains the overall current silhouette.

So What Now?

My parent’s and grandparent’s generation still meet in empty parking lots admiring their American classic cars of their generation. Carburetors ruled the streets when a complete McDonald’s combo meal was under 50 cents.

Our generation will no doubt do the same (not the McDonald’s part).

My suggestion. Buy your dream car soon. Drive it. Enjoy it. Then one day, park it at a cars and coffee and let the fake exhaust crowd drool at your fossil burning hot rod.
