Teslas Freezing Their Electric Circuits Off š„¶!
As most of the country is experience lower temperatures, EV owners are feeling frostbite in their fingers by now. We have all seen the funny personalized license plates with the āGASLOLā or āRIPGASā, but this week most Tesla owners were probably wishing they had the warmer version of āICEā.

So What Is The Problem?
The lithium ions flow through a liquid electrolyte, that when itās cold, travel more slowly. This in turn cuts into the batteryās range and can deplete the battery faster. The same issue arises when attempting to charge an EV in extreme cold, causing supercharger times to go out the window.
Some Tesla owners reported charge times of over one hour and fifty minutes.
The increased charge times did not help rapidly depleting batteries as they shiver in order to maintain temperatures that would enable the battery to even accept a charge.
The end result: š” Fuming Tesla owners and abandoned ādead robotsā.
Solid-State Batteries The Future?
Researchers at Harvard have built a solid-state battery prototype capable of charging in just 10-minutes. The battery is also capable of charging and discharging more than 6,000 times while having a 10x capacity advantage over current battery technology.
Most GRIP members skew towards the internal combustion engine camp, but as more manufacturers push electric vehicles, the technology and infrastructure improvements will play a major role in adoption.
There Is Hope. Thanks Toā¦. Porsche š
In September 2023, Porscheās project lead for eFuels said that the brand aims to put its synthetic fuel on sale by the end of the decade!
The fuel Porsche is creating and testing in Chile has produced 130,000 liters or 34,342 gallons, which is not enough globally but the plan is to produce 550 million liters or roughly 145 million gallons by 2027.
The synthetic fuel that Porsche is concocting in the lab is carbon-neutral. The process is so clean, that Porsche literally emits the waste (oxygen) directly into the atmosphere. Porsche has essentially created a tree š³!
The process takes carbon dioxide out of the air and separates it into carbon and oxygen. They combine this with hydrogen (taken from water), to create any combustible fuel such as diesel, petrol and even kerosene.
