BMW Doesn’t Want To Kill The ICE M3 Just Yet 🧊⚡️

Caricos

It seems like every week an icon has an EV taking its place. BMW, however, plans to make a gas-powered M3 alongside the EV variant. BMW, along with many other manufactures, are in the process of electrifying their entire lineup. If you haven’t read the Death of the Audi R8, go check out how Audi plans to replace it with an EV version.

According to BMW Blog’s report, the M3 sedan may be the only fuel powered option in their performance lineup. The M4 is reportedly going to be electric only.

Interestingly enough, the European Union has placed a provision that allows ICE cars to be powered by synthetic fuels. The EPA has also joined this trend and have cut back on their regulations due to pressure from the automotive industry. 🤔 This may be because people are realizing the high costs associated with replacing an entire battery.

Electric BMW M3 in 2027?

BMW Blog reports that the first electric M3 will be called ZA0 internally and could make its debut after 2027.

According to Hemmings, the 2001-2006 two-door coupe M3s are already on the radar of car collectors. BMW produced around 85,000 E46 M3s worldwide and prices ranged from $45k - $49k in the final 2006 production year.

BMW M3s follow a pattern according to Hemmings. The current generation dive in value for every new release and the previous generation becomes a gem for many car collectors.

A low-mileage coupe with a manual transmission that is bone stock can fetch a good asking price today. Now that BMW clearly has plans to introduce an EV version, I can only imagine BMW diehards fighting to obtain great examples of the E46.

What To Look For

The typical black, silver and white exterior color options are plentiful. If you find a non-metallic Laguna Seca Blue or metallic Phoenix Yellow, that tends to add a premium.

Watch out for early production cars and make sure they have engine bearings replaced (covered under warranty back in 2001-2003).

Rivian Reveals The New R3

The new R3 definitely has 1990 VW Golf vibes.

The new R3 has a 300-mile range, 0-60 in less than 3 seconds, starting at $45,000, with deliveries beginning in 2026.
